What you need

  • UptimeRobot or Better Stack

When it runs

Continuous.

Steps

  1. Create monitors in UptimeRobot or Better Stack for your homepage, your checkout or signup page and your main API endpoint.
  2. Use a keyword check on the checkout page, so a page that loads but shows an error still counts as down.
  3. Send alerts to email and to your phone, and add a second person if you have one.
  4. Require two failed checks in a row before alerting, to avoid waking up for a single blip.
  5. Publish a simple status page on a subdomain like status.yoursite.com.
  6. After each outage, add one line to the status page saying what broke and what changed.

AI step

(No AI step.)

Why this usually works

Why it worksYou hear about downtime before customers email, and the status page answers the first question for them.

What to watch for

Watch forMonitor the page that makes money, not just the homepage.
Watch forHost the status page with a different provider from your site, or it goes down at the same time.
