What you need
- Email tool segment
- short survey
When it runs
Before a research sprint.
Steps
- In your email tool, build a segment of people who used the product in the last 60 days.
- Send a plain-text email from a real person asking for 20 minutes to hear how they use it, and say clearly it is not a sales call.
- Link to a two-question screener: what they use the product for, and when they last used it.
- Invite only the people whose answers match what you are researching.
- Let them book through a scheduling link with a short buffer between calls.
- After each call, write three lines: what they were trying to do, what got in the way, and the exact words they used.

Why this usually works
Why it worksYour own users already know the problem, so they say yes faster and give more specific answers than strangers.
