What you need

  • Host backups
  • a test restore

When it runs

Monthly.

Steps

  1. Turn on automated daily backups for both your database and your file storage (most hosts and Supabase have a switch for this).
  2. Copy at least one backup a week to a second account or provider, so one locked or deleted account cannot take both.
  3. Once a month, restore the latest backup into a separate test project, never into production.
  4. Open the restored copy and check three things: you can log in, the newest record is from the backup date, and uploaded files open.
  5. Write down how long the restore took and any step you had to look up, in a short runbook next to your other bot notes.
  6. Set a calendar reminder for the next test restore before you close the runbook.

AI step

(No AI step.)

Why this usually works

Why it worksA backup you have never restored is a guess. A timed, written restore turns it into a plan you can follow under stress.

What to watch for

Watch forBackups kept in the same account as production can be lost together; keep one copy somewhere else.
Watch forA restore that was never timed will take longer than you expect on a bad day; the runbook is the real deliverable.
